orange liquid death

hi everyone! moving on from my emotional and ridiculous dog post from the other day (my poor poor husband **sigh***).... it's prego update time! i'm now 29 weeks pregnant and i had an OB appointment today. brian had to work so i went in alone which is normally just fine because usually all they do during a routine OB appointment is take your blood pressure (which my nurse today said mine was "beautiful"... why thank you!); make you pee in a little dixie cup so they can dip a little tester strip in it for infections and proteins or whatever; listen to the baby's heart rate; and then measure your tummy from your pubic bone to the top of your uterus. my tummy ALWAYS measures exactly right. today i measured 29-30 inches which is perfect because it's suppose to be an inch per week.... so 29 inches equals 29 weeks. conan seems to be right on schedule. oh and then the doc always comes in and tells you what to expect for the next month or so. this all takes like maybe 15 minutes. oh and you always have a weigh in. this time i only gained 1 pound since my last visit! i am very very excited about that!

today's visit was a little more eventful. i had to have my rhogam shot and a glucose test. because of amy and kyla i was totally prepared to get my rhogam shot - they warned me that you get the shot in your butt check AND that it hurts. maybe because of these warnings and being prepared made it not so bad for me. the nurse actually gave it to my in the hip and it just felt like a shot - it didn't hurt.

NOW..... as for the glucose test... where was the warning on that one? i had to drink a little bottle of the orange liquid death. it tastes fine, kind of like orange crush soda without carbonation, but that is just to fool you. withing oh 30 minutes or so of gulping this stuff down (at this time i was done at the doc's and was walking up one flight of stairs to the lab where they draw my blood) i got really hot, short of breath (that could have been from climbing the stairs...), and way way light headed. oh yes - i almost fainted for real. i was standing in line at the lab to be checked in and instantly had that moment of "oh crap i'm going to faint in front of all these people!" so i quickly sat down in the nearest chair and just breathed in and out until the rushing sound in my ears went away and the light headiness was equaling out a little bit. i also got the sensation that i might puke and crap my pants all at the same time. luckily i didn't faint or do the other things. and thank you for all those pointless information handouts at doctors office because that is what i used to fan myself during this entire ordeal because i had to sit there for 25 minutes until they could draw my blood for the test. afterwards i walked across the street to the hospital where brian met me outside the ER to get an update of the doc visit. he was like oh yeah well that all can happen because your blood sugar is spiking and yadi yadi yada. seriously..... where was the warning? and the one time brian didn't come with me it would have been useful to have him there in case i face planted on the carpet of the lab waiting room. so that's the sugar high right? well then you crash..... and you seriously crash. i have never had a sugar high and crash before like that. it makes me think how can people do drugs? sheesh! did this happen to anyone else with the glucose test?

brian just looked at the photo of the liquid orange death bottle to see how many grams of glucose was in it and said "whoa! that's twice the amount that we give diabetics! sheesh did you take a nap after you crashed?" they only give 25 grams to diabetics.... I HAD 50. crazy.

I must thrive on sugar highs because I've never had a problem with it... however, it's hard to swallow pure sugar! I still say the RhoGam is worse...

I never had a reaction like that...I only wanted to puke! It's liquid sugar, and I LOVE sugar, but taht stuff makes me want to puke...I had to do both tests that one, and then the 3 hour one...the 3 hour one is KILLER! It's three hours of keeping your self from throwing up all over the lab floor! As for the rogam shot..AHAHAHAHAH! Oh, that was mean....Quinn is negative too, so I never had to get one THANK HEAVENS! I hate shots...I think that was one of the hardest things for me about being pregnant...was knowing I would get poked...WAY TOO MUCH! I am glad it is over for you, and hope that the test come back great, so you don't have to do the 3 hr. one!
