it's a boy!!

so we had our ultrasound and found out that we are going to be having a little boy! brian is very excited and believes that since it is a boy he is totally in charge of decorating the nursery. no girls allowed already. crazy. we are still working on names so no to that question because that's what everyone asks next :) we still call him conan and probably will until he is born and has a real name.

poor brian has been dealing with me having issues during the middle of the night with heartburn radiating from my kneecaps. but other than that i'm doing really well! our baby boy seems to be passing all his testing and looks healthy. his stomach and spine are inside his body much to brian's relief and he does not have any genetic issues that we are aware of much to my relief. i will have to get a shot so my body doesn't reject him since brian has A+ blood and i'm A-. And yes mom that is correct. you must be A +- since there are two alleles (wrong word i know but i don't know what it's really called) and i just picked up the negative. i guess blood works the same way as DNA is what we found out at the doctors - it was a cool little biology lesson - aubrie would have found it interesting just as much as we did. i might have to get another shot AFTER lil' conan is born depending on what blood type he inherits from our DNA mix. no big deal.

thanks mom, dad, lacey and logan for all the cute clothes and the bassinet. brian put the bassinet together the other night. so that's one thing down 12 other million things to do to get ready for conan the barbarian :)

You're so funny! And the shot...I am a pro about that crap now.
(I know your dr told you about all this already, but I'm going to write it anyway because I have nothing else to do right now)

It Rhogam and you get it at 28 weeks and within 48 hours of delivery...negative blood is a recessive trait so you miss Kim will probably get one with the first baby, which is unusual, because you usually only have to get a shot with the second baby because that is when your blood would have made antibodies to the positive blood.

Also, you get a rhogam shot (that hurts so I hear...sorry dude; I'll have to get it too, K is AB+ and I'm AB-) at 28 weeks because that is when the placenta shifts and it's the only time during pregnancy that your blood cells can cross and mix.

And, if the your blood doesn't match correctly with baby's blood baby can get Jaundice when he's born (so, put him in indirect sunlight and let him poop...pooping is good for a jaundice baby :)). (that's called coombs positive babies) but, luckily you don't have to worry about ABO incompatibility only the Rh factor. (am I blowing your mind with my knowledge...kidding)

I'm smart. I had to redeem myself from last week when I couldn't remember any of the heart problems that Brian was spewing out.

I have to get RhoGam shots... they hurt, but at least when you get them after delivery you are on pain killers so that one doesn't hurt!
